Lloyds Fabrications is a family-run metal fabricator in Ponthir, Newport, established in 1919 and now in its fifth generation. We design, hand-make and install bespoke metal and wrought iron gates, railings, staircases, balconies, aluminium verandas and structural steelwork across South Wales and the West of England. Every piece is hot-dip galvanised as standard and fitted by our own team.

Steel, Iron or Aluminium?
Steel is the strongest and most cost-effective choice for gates and structural work, aluminium is light and rust-free for verandas and low-maintenance gates, and forged iron is the choice for traditional, decorative detail. Here is how the three compare for a typical driveway or boundary.

Over a Century in Newport
In 1919, a wire worker from Newcastle set up a modest workshop in Newport, Gwent. Lloyd Bros. & Co. stood for one thing: doing the job properly in steel, every time.
Over a century later, Gareth leads the business, with the fifth generation already at the bench. His son Ieuan works alongside him part-time, and Lewys is training towards his CAD qualifications. The equipment is better. The approach hasn't changed. Every gate, railing, and steel frame is still made by hand, by people who care about what they produce.

Where are you based, and do you make everything yourselves?
Yes. We are a family business established in Newport in 1919 and now in our fifth generation, working from our own workshop in Ponthir. All work is made in-house and fitted by our own team, not subcontracted.
Do you make both traditional and modern gates?
Yes. We hand-forge traditional wrought iron with scrollwork and spear tops, and we build modern steel, composite-infill and aluminium gates. Every gate is made to measure for your property.
Is everything galvanised?
Hot-dip galvanising is standard on our steelwork. It protects against rust for decades in typical UK conditions and is then painted in your chosen finish.
How much will my gate or railing cost?
It depends on size, design and finish. Forged ironwork starts from around £750 for the first metre as a guide, and we give a free site visit and a fixed-price written quote before starting.
Do you install automation and access control?
Yes. We install swing, sliding and bi-folding automation with keypad, fob, intercom and smartphone control, and can retrofit many existing gates.
Do your staircases and balconies meet building regulations?
Yes. External staircases, fire escapes and balconies are built to UK Building Regulations, Approved Document K.
