A staircase is one of the hardest-working things in a building. Get it right and you barely notice it's there. Get it wrong and you'll know about it every day. We've been making staircases that get it right since 1919.
Every staircase we make starts with a proper survey. Tread width, riser height, headroom clearance, the structural situation — these all have to be right before a single piece of steel is cut. It's not glamorous, but it's the part of the job that separates a staircase that fits and functions from one that causes problems for years.
We work on internal feature staircases, external access stairs, fire escapes, and industrial applications. The approach is the same across all of them: use the right material, do the engineering properly, and finish it in a way that suits where it's going.
Residential or commercial, modest budget or something more ambitious — we'll tell you what's achievable and give you an honest price. No fuss.
When a staircase is on display, it has to look right. We design and build internal metal staircases that work as architectural features — open-riser, closed-riser, floating treads, or a combination. The steel can be left raw, painted, or powder coated to match your interior.
External stairs need to handle the weather without complaint. We use galvanised steel as standard on all external work — it's the only sensible approach if you want the staircase to still look reasonable in ten years' time. Open-grate treads for drainage, solid treads for comfort. We can do either.
Fire escape stairs are a compliance requirement — but they don't have to be an eyesore. We fabricate fire escape structures that meet building regulations and are properly installed. Platforms, landings, handrails — all to the required specifications, signed off correctly.
We come to you before anything is drawn or priced. Dimensions, structural constraints and finish requirements are all confirmed on site — not estimated from a phone call.
The stringer design and fixing method are engineered to suit the load, the span, and the building structure. We don't guess at this — it matters.
Solid plate, open checker plate, timber inserts, or open grating. We'll advise on which suits the application, the aesthetics, and the budget — and there's usually more than one good answer.
Vertical bar, cable infill, or glass panel inserts — we fabricate balustrades and handrails that meet the relevant regulations and look intentional rather than bolted on as an afterthought.
All external work is hot-dip galvanised as standard. Internal stairs can be painted, powder coated, or finished in a raw mill scale treatment — whatever suits the space.
We don't just drop the staircase off. Our team handles the full installation — including fixings, any groundwork required, and a final check before we hand over.
We visit, measure, and assess. Everything from headroom and structural fixings to the finish requirements of the surrounding space.
A clear drawing and a fixed price. No surprises on the day. We'll talk through any options before anything is signed off.
Cut, welded and finished in our Newport workshop. We don't subcontract — your staircase is made by us, start to finish.
Our own team fits the staircase on site. We leave it clean, level, and ready to use — with no punchlist items left for someone else to sort out.
