Llandaff keeps the feel of a cathedral village inside the city, and much of it falls within a conservation area where the look of a gate or railing matters as much as how it is built. We work throughout Llandaff and the neighbouring CF5 streets of Canton and Pontcanna, where Victorian and Edwardian terraces set the tone for most of what we are asked to make.

On conservation-sensitive frontages the job is usually to match what was there, or what a street of that period would have had: traditional bow-top and spear-top railings, forged front-garden gates, and pedestrian gates in keeping with the house. We forge these by hand and galvanise before painting, so a heritage look does not come at the cost of durability.

Working in a Conservation Area

Period and listed properties sometimes come with extra considerations, and we are used to working around them. Common Llandaff jobs are front-garden railings restored or remade to match a terrace, side and alley gates for security without spoiling the frontage, and railings for steps and low boundary walls.
